Symptoms of an eye emergency
If you notice any of the following symptoms, it is important to contact an ophthalmologist immediately:
- Flying black dots, gnats or threads
- Seeing flashes, shadows or curtains
- Severely reddened, swollen eye, possibly with secretion
- Seeing double images
- Sudden loss or deterioration of vision, such as blurred vision, limited vision, etc.
- Severe eye pain
- Injury to the eye
- Foreign body
- Sensitivity to light
It is difficult for a layperson to assess whether an eye emergency is present or not. If in doubt, contact an ophthalmologist!
